Off-the-peg-style in the 40's and 50's

One of my lovely customers lent me this amazing book 'Horrockses Fashions'. Horrockses primarily ran a cotton fabric company but after the WW2 decided to expand and release a range of ready to wear hostess gowns, beachwear & dresses.
A 1940's advertisement for Horrockses, Crewdson & Co.'s sheets and towels.
An advertisement for an evening dress in 1953 'Lansil' jersey.
Many of the beautiful fabrics were designed by artists. Like this botanical print designed by Alastair Morton.
Pineapple & rose fabric design by Pat Albeck. This one of my favourites!
This one is by Pat Albeck too! love these fruit designs...
So beautiful a finely drawn rose pattern by Pat Albeck...
And last but not least this gorgeous novelty print from the children's range by Joyce Bradrocke! And this is just a few from the vast range of fabrics in this book.....

Oh so beautiful and functional.....

These little notebooks arrived in store today...l have to say l just love! stationery the smell, the feel, the look,to me it means organisation (which l sometimes struggle with) so it's nice to have pretty stationery that satisfy's the inner need to have everything in one place....and l love spots too!

Ok the big brown bottles are vases, the small clear bottles have gorgeous little gift tags inside, the brown boxes at the front have the best thing since sliced bread inside, scissor, spool & string set! I have been using one for at least 12 months l now l can not live without it. Where are the scissors? right there and the string? there too! These are all from the fabulous Korean-based company o-Check. Great designs and environmentally conscious many of the products are made from recycled paper, natural fabrics, wood and soy ink.

Part 2 New arrivals.......

This is the top of a sewing box such great fabric. The lady who it came from told me it was from the 1920's l'm not so sure l think it's more likely 1940's any suggestions?
I found this fabulous cook book by Flora Pell. It looks like it's late forties early fifties no publish date unfortunately!
I love stewed fruit but hate how it gets mushy so l was so happy to find this recipe genius!
Why don't they make ad's like these any more?

New arrivals....

Here are some new things that have arrived at Bell's Belles Vintage this week. I love this Industrial storage/file cupboard! So I decided to think of 12 ways to use it and print them up on my typewriter then put them onto each draw which l thought looked great.

I am constantly trying different ways to style my hair that l feel comfortable with and that are manageable enough to do in a fairly short amount of time! However l think it's advisable to allow yourself some time when learning a new hair style. Sometimes they just don't work out but usually there is something to be salvaged from the attempt.

So this is my first picture taken by me on my new camera and l'm pretty happy with how it turned out! This little red jacket is from the 1940's, love that cinched waist, you can't see it here but it has 2 little bow's either side of the second button. I have to say l love natural tones with bold colours like this woven bag....and this tullie is a tulle skirt everyone needs some tulle from time to time....so lets all tulle out! x
